Being stuck at home throughout the ‘Circuit Breaker’ period is already proving to be tough for many of us. Imagine how much tougher it is for the patients, who have to spend all that time alone.
2 mums who are Covid-19 patients shared their experiences with MediaCorp artiste Nurul Aini and her husband Sofian via Instagram ‘Live’ yesterday (28 Apr).
Mr Sofian shared some snippets of the interview on his Facebook page.
Fighting back tears, and causing Ms Nurul to cry herself, their heartbreaking stories give a glimpse into how truly difficult life in complete isolation can be.
The first mum, who tested positive along with her 13-month old son, is sharing a ward with him.
While they get to be together, what breaks her heart is whenever they make contact with family via video calls. Every time her son sees his siblings’ faces on screen, he would try to reach out as if he could touch them.
The young child would also call out to his father to take him home. The account broke Ms Nurul’s heart so much that she teared up and couldn’t speak.
The mum also shared her worries for her 3-year-old son back home, who has been refusing to eat rice for the past 2 weeks, because he only wants her to feed him.
Describing the situation broke her previously calm demeanour as the thought of her child’s sadness affected her deeply.
In her account, she also mentioned that she had visited Northpoint City mall while wearing a mask and sanitised her hands, yet still contracted the virus.
Being separated from her young child is a pain the second mum knows too well.
Still breastfeeding her 2-year-old, not getting to be home to feed him is a painful change she struggles to adapt to.
Seeing him cry for her via video call only makes the situation even more challenging.
Despite their apparent sadness, we’re glad to see that the mums seem to be holding up well in treatment.
We’re thankful to Ms Nurul Aini for sharing this rare insight into the patients’ experiences, so we can empathise with them more.
We hope that they’ll recover soon, so they can reunite with their families, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
