Meanwhile, the white vapour continued to be emitted from the bus.
In response to queries from MS News, Mr Vincent Gay, SMRT Buses’ Deputy Managing Director, said the incident took place at about 9.15pm on 16 Oct.
Smoke was seen coming from the engine compartment of its Service 110 bus, which was travelling along the TPE at the time.
The bus captain promptly stopped the bus at the next stop and alerted SMRT’s Bus Operations Control Centre.
All 30 passengers on board continued their journeys after transferring safely to the next bus, Mr Gay said.
No injuries were reported, he noted, adding:
We thank all passengers for their patience and cooperation during the incident.
After the affected bus was towed to the depot for inspection, preliminary checks found that coolant had leaked from a PVC pipe onto a hot component.
This resulted in vapour being produced that appeared to be smoke.
But no fire ensued, Mr Gay said, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the leak.
