Fengshan PCF Sparkletots Now Ordered To Close 2 Weeks, After Teacher Tests Positive For Covid-19

Fengshan PCF Sparkletots Staff & Students To Be Quarantined After Teacher Down With Covid-19

UPDATE (25 Mar): The centre has now been ordered to close till 7 Apr after several staff reportedly starting feeling unwell, according to The Straits Times.

All staff and children at the Block 126 Fengshan centre will be put under quarantine. The centre is closely monitoring its staff and parents on the health of their children.

The PAP Community Foundation (PCF) Sparkletots Preschool at Block 126 in Fengshan will be closed today (24 Mar) for Covid-19 disinfection.

This comes after a teacher tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday (23 Mar).

The centre was not closed for 14 days as the teacher was last in school 2 days before she reported symptoms of the virus.

PCF Sparkletots teacher last in school 2 days before onset of Covid-19 symptoms

In an email circular sent to parents reported by The Straits Times, the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) mentioned that the teacher was on leave last Wednesday (18 Mar) to Friday (20 Mar).

However, she went to the preschool for a few hours on Wednesday to do some work.

The teacher then developed an onset of symptoms and saw a doctor on Friday.

On Monday (23 Mar), she tested positive for Covid-19.

Covid-19 disinfection an “added precautionary measure”

As the teacher was last in school 2 days before she developed symptoms, there was no need for the centre to be closed for 14 days, said ECDA chief licensing officer Jamie Ang.

However, as an “added precautionary measure”, the school will be closed for a day for disinfection purposes.

Other measures such as increased temperature screening, restricting visitors and suspending large group activities have already been put in place since the start of the month.

Contact tracing is underway

The Ministry of Health (MOH) is currently conducting contact tracing to identify potential infections.

Hopefully, kids at Sparkletots remain safe and no new cases will spawn from this.
