A pillion rider died after a motorcycle was struck by an ambulance driving against traffic in Cebu City, Philippines, on Tuesday (14 April).
The deceased was identified as 19-year-old college student Braille Nichole Kwek, The Manila Times reported.
Initial investigation revealed that the ambulance was bringing a stroke patient to the hospital when the incident occurred at around 1pm.
Meanwhile, the motorcycle and the pillion rider, both first-year mechanical engineering students, were on their way to school.
The ambulance drove against the flow of traffic upon reaching the two-way flyover, causing a head-on collision with the motorcycle in the opposite lane.

The impact threw the motorcycle driver and pillion rider off the vehicle.
Ms Kwek was then run over by the ambulance, causing her to die instantly.
Meanwhile, the motorcycle driver, Juan Antonio Ladioray, was rushed to the hospital and is in critical condition.
The ambulance driver, identified as Ryan Kevin Gista, was taken into police custody following the incident.

According to ABS-CBN, he faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injury and damage to property.
The authorities are currently investigating the full details of the crash.
