Uganda’s military chief has announced the arrest of a man accused of killing and cannibalising 38 people over 15 years.
Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba identified the suspect as Moses Mujurizi, who allegedly committed the killings between 2010 and 2025 across three districts.
However, authorities have yet to publicly provide a list of Mujurizi’s alleged victims and detailed evidence supporting the cannibalism claim.
On Tuesday (27 Oct), Gen Kainerugaba announced the arrest on X and shared an image of the handcuffed suspect.
In the post, he described Mujurizi as the “worst serial killer and cannibal” in the country’s history.
“He killed and ate 38 people between 2010 and 2025 in Masaka, Ibanda and Kazo,” he wrote.
The military chief also revealed that Mujurizi will be tried in public, adding they will “definitely execute him.”

However, Gen Kainerugaba did not disclose when or where the arrest took place.
He has also not revealed what charges have been filed against the suspect in relation to the alleged 38 killings.
According to Pulse Uganda, the announcement followed renewed investigations into a series of killings in the Greater Masaka region dating back more than a decade.
On 16 Oct, police also revealed that they have arrested a suspected serial killer identified as Fred Mujulizi, also known as Kulaish Kamugisha.
Mujulizi and an alleged accomplice faced charges of murder and human trafficking in a Masaka court over the killing of a woman on 28 Sept 2026.
They were subsequently remanded till 5 Nov for investigations.

Police have also linked Mujulizi to a series of horrific killings in Masaka and Rakai districts between 2012 and 2013.
In one of the cases, the suspect allegedly drilled through the wall of a pastor’s home and killed nine members of his household.
Authorities also suspect Mujulizi of being involved in the killings of several members of two families in Masaka in late 2012.
Additionally, he was linked to a similar incident which occurred to two other families in the district in 2023.
Police said Mujulizi had been arrested more than once before, Uganda Radio Network reported.
However, he reportedly evaded custody twice with the help of some security officers.
In one case, the suspect was allegedly released after promising to help authorities apprehend his accomplices, but he took the opportunity to flee and go into hiding.
It is unclear whether Mujurizi and Mujulizi are the same person, International Business Times reported.
