Phuket shop owner warns businesses after tourist allegedly assaults staff over change dispute

A shop owner in Phuket, Thailand, warned other small businesses to stay alert after two foreign women allegedly assaulted a female employee during a dispute over missing change at a downtown market.

The incident happened at around 6.30pm on Tuesday (29 Sept) at a shop in Phuket Town.

According to the owner, two female tourists entered the shop and bought items worth 100 baht (about S$3.80). They paid with a 1,000-baht (about S$38) note and were allegedly short-changed by 500 baht (about S$19).

The owner said one of the tourists accused the employee of failing to return 500 baht in change.

The staff member reportedly insisted that the full amount had been returned and asked the tourists to wait while she contacted the owner to review the CCTV footage.
