On Saturday (6 Nov), a section of the linkway shelter near Yishun MRT collapsed after a double-decker bus collision.
Pictures and videos circulating online show the front glass panel on the upper deck completely shattered.
SCDF officers were also seen providing assistance at the scene.
Footage making rounds on social media show that a section of the linkway shelter leading to Yishun MRT had collapsed.
From the pictures, it can be estimated that the collapsed shelter measured about 20-30 metres.
According to 8World News, the accident apparently happened at around 1.30pm on Saturday (6 Nov).
At least 3 individuals were reportedly injured as a result of the collision.
Coincidentally, a similar accident involving another double-decker bus had also happened at the same location in 2017.
Tower Transit has since taken to Facebook to apologise for the accident.
As for the bus captain of the service 969 bus involved, Tower Transit shared the driver has been suspended.
Tower Transit is currently in the midst of getting in touch with the injured individuals and their loved ones.
They’re also assisting with ongoing investigations.
MS News has reached out to SCDF for more information and here’s their official statement in full:
On 6 November 2021 at about 1pm, SCDF received a call for assistance along Yishun Avenue 2. Upon SCDF’s arrival, a passenger bus had crashed into a taxi bay and the covered walkway to the bay had partially collapsed. No one was trapped in the passenger bus. SCDF conveyed three persons to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
While it’s unclear how the accident occurred, we can only imagine the heavy impact required for the shelter to collapse.
We hope those conveyed to the hospital suffered minor injuries and will make a swift recovery soon.
