The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 16 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore today (18 Jun).
14 are within the local community, of which 4 are currently unlinked. 10 others comprise 5 who were already on quarantine, while the remaining 5 were detected through surveillance.
There are also 2 imported cases among individuals serving their Stay-Home Notices (SHNs).
Today’s tally brings our total case count so far to 62,382.
In line with Phase 3 Heightened Alert (P3HA) plans, the Multi-ministry Taskforce (MTF) announced the resumption of dine-ins on 21 Jun.
However, instead of the original 5 pax limit, only a maximum of 2 diners will be allowed at any one table.
This comes after the emergence of the Bukit Merah View Market cluster, which grew to 56 cases yesterday (17 Jun).
The cap for other social gatherings, such as visitors to households, remains at 5.
With community infections not seeming to slow down just yet, perhaps the MTS made the right decision to hold back on reopening proper.
We can at least take comfort in the fact that we can dine at our favourite eateries again.
Surely F&B business owners appreciate this slightly too.
As for subsequent reopening plans, let’s wait patiently till the situation improves. Perhaps then, we’ll be able to meet more friends in public places again.
