Floor in mall allegedly covered with faeces due to burst ceiling pipe
On Sunday (24 Nov), a Thai Facebook page posted a video of alleged faeces leaking from a burst ceiling pipe and spreading across the floor of a famous mall in Bangkok.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 6.20pm on Saturday (23 Nov).
The footage captured liquid gushing from the broken pipe and spilling into an area lined with racks of clothes.
The floor could be seen being covered with sewage.
Several shopkeepers in the affected area hurriedly moved their goods following the leak.
Netizens question how issue would be addressed
After watching the video, many netizens showed sympathy towards the shop owners and sellers who were affected by the incident.
A netizen remarked that the incident likely forced shops to close for a week and left goods with a lingering smell. He expressed sympathy for the affected sellers.
Another commenter asked whether the mall would take accountability for the incident.
Additionally, one netizen was curious about how long the foul smell would last.
Mall investigation reveals burst pipe was for grease disposal
On Monday (25 Nov), the Facebook page updated that the incident had been addressed by the mall.
It was reported that the burst pipe was a grease disposal pipe and did not contain any faeces.
The leak occurred due to a blockage, which created pressure at the end of the pipe, leading to the spill.
Cleaning tasks were completed by 7.20pm on the same day.
Eight shops were reportedly affected by the leak, but the mall has since contacted them and offered compensation.
The mall’s pipe system has been cleared to prevent a similar incident from happening.
