Residents gathered in excitement as a car caught fire in the middle of an open-air carpark in Toa Payoh on Friday (21 Aug) evening.
Footage posted on TikTok showed a large crowd, including several children, gawking at the eye-catching sight.

In the clip, the blaze was seen to be visible from an open space where many children were playing ball and cycling.
At one point, there was a small explosion, prompting a woman to pull a small girl away for fear of danger.

Most of the onlookers, however, did not seem very concerned about the fire while viewing it from a safe distance.

As the inferno raged, some members of the public were seen trying to put out the fire.
This included a man who approached the car with a fire extinguisher.

Another man was seen spraying it with water from a hose.

Later, photos shared by Sgfollowsall on Telegram depicted the car with its bonnet completely burnt, but the rest of the vehicle mostly intact.

Part of the carpark had been cordoned off, with several firefighters and police officers at the scene.

In response to queries from MS News, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at about 6.05pm on 21 Aug.
It took place at an open carpark near Block 148 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh, and involved the engine compartment of a car.
SCDF extinguished the fire using a water jet, with no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
