Women allegedly steal from potted plant outside a closed shop in Singapore

Two women allegedly plucked flowering growth from a potted plant outside a closed shop in Singapore, with one seen approaching the plant with a handkerchief in hand.

On Tuesday (22 Sept), a netizen shared CCTV footage of the incident, which allegedly took place outside their parents’ shop on 21 Sept at around 9.29pm.

Two women touched the plant and pulled ‘flowering growth’

The footage, posted on Instagram page @sgfollowsall, shows two women approaching the closed shop, where a potted plant had been placed outside.

The plant, in pink with huge leaves sprouting out, caught one of the women’s attention.

She is seen holding a canned drink as she touches and inspects the plant.

The second woman, who is holding a handkerchief, walks up to the plant and touches it as well.

A few seconds later, the flowering pot is visibly missing a chunk of the plant.

The OP said that one of the women had “pulled flowering growth” from the plant.

Allegedly had the intention of stealing the plant

The OP claims that the two women came with the “intention of stealing the plant”.

They pointed out that one of the women “approached with a handkerchief ready in hand to keep the plant”.

“This was not on impulse, this was planned,” the OP wrote.

OP’s mother spent months taking care of the plant

According to the OP, the shop belongs to their parents, who are “avid plant lovers”.

They said their mother had spent months carefully looking after the plant.

“In a matter of seconds, someone decided that because they liked it, they were entitled to take it,” the OP wrote.

They added that the issue was not simply about the value of the plant or flower, but about respecting another person’s property, time and effort.

OP advises people to not dismiss this case

Finally, the OP advises the public not to let this incident slide, even if it appears trivial.

“Singapore is supposed to be a place where people respect what belongs to others,” they said. “We should not dismiss behaviour like this as harmless simply because the stolen item was a flower.”

“If it is not yours and you do not have permission, leave it alone. Being accessible does not make it free.”

Netizens have mixed reactions to the theft

The incident quickly garnered attention online, gaining over 94,000 views since it was posted.

Netizens who came across the video empathised with the OP, feeling angry over the injustice of the alleged theft.

Many shared their own experience of “itchy hands”, confused as to the lack of respect and decency in Singapore.

A few told the OP to report it to the authorities.

However, some netizens questioned why the pot was placed outside of the shop, criticising owners for leaving the item unattended.
