A seafood supplier in Singapore has been gaining attention online after its staff were seen giving out free food to migrant workers.
In a TikTok post by @catchseafoodsg on 1 Sept, a staff member approached two migrant workers and asked if they wanted some free food.
“Excuse me, you guys want free food?” he asked. “We got a lot of food. Pasta can ah?”
After they agreed, he offered them some pasta and checked if they had any seafood allergies.
The staff member also asked if they could handle spice, as the pasta was spicy.
One of the workers then clarified whether “spicy” meant that the pasta contained chilli before saying he could handle the spice.
The conversation then turned into a casual chat about their lives in Singapore.
When asked if they were still working, one worker explained that they were on their meal break.
One of the workers shared that he was from India, while the man next to him was from Bangladesh.
The staff member then asked how long he had been in Singapore.
“Three years,” the worker replied.
He also shared that he was a construction worker and would be returning home in about five months.
The conversation then shifted to marriage and family, with the 29-year-old worker saying that he was still single.

“Maybe 32 years old get married,” he said, adding that his sister was already married, meaning he would be the last in the family to do so.
The staff then asked if he liked Singapore and whether the pay was okay.
“Yeah, I like it,” the worker replied, adding that the pay was “okay, okay”.
The video then ended with the staff member telling the workers to enjoy their food before bidding farewell.
A netizen said that migrant workers are the “backbone” of Malaysian and Singaporean societies, and called the content “refreshing”.

A commenter suggested buying frozen seafood from the supplier, Catch Seafood, to have them cook and distribute the meals to more migrant workers.

The post is the latest instalment in Catch Seafood’s series of videos showing its staff giving food to migrant workers at night.
Previous videos from part one and part two also featured the seafood supplier handing out food to other migrant workers.
There was also a call-to-action asking netizens to follow them if they wish for them to continue the series.
Mel, a Catch Seafood manager, told MS News that they started giving out free meals to migrant workers about two weeks ago.
When asked why they started this initiative, she said: “Migrant workers in Singapore work tirelessly late into the night or through overnight shifts to provide for their families back home.”
“We have families ourselves. We can’t imagine the kind of sacrifice these workers make by being away from home to earn a living and support their loved ones, while contributing to another country and its community,” she added.
Furthermore, finding a warm and convenient meal late at night can be challenging.
Mel told MS News that this is a “small way” to show appreciation in acknowledging the hard work put in by migrant workers.
Catch Seafood used two of its bestsellers, Jumbo Prawns and Snapper Cubes, to create a specially prepared seafood Aglio Olio.
“Aglio Olio is my kids’ favourite, and it’s something we have at home at least once a week. We wanted to offer the workers something a little different from their usual everyday meals,” she shared.
“We’re just happy to share a little of what we love.”

Mel told MS News that she noticed many migrant workers working late into the night in Punggol and Sengkang around where she lives.
“Because we wanted to reach those working late into the night or on overnight shifts, we rented bicycles and cycled through these neighbourhoods between 10pm and 2am to distribute the meals,” she said.
“We hope to continue doing what we can, in our own way, one meal at a time. While this may be a small initiative, we believe that kindness does not have to be complicated to make a difference.”
