The coronavirus may have triggered panic, but it’s also an amazing opportunity to see acts of kindness from our neighbours.
On Saturday (8 Feb), a group of dedicated mothers from Teck Ghee Parkview Residents’ Network banded together to make homemade hand sanitisers.
The ladies then distributed their concoctions in estate lifts for grandparents, children, and fathers in their local community.
These heartwarming efforts show that the kampung spirit is definitely alive in the city.
To combat the spread of the coronavirus, the super mums in Teck Ghee spent their precious Saturday morning creating hand sanitisers.
Instructor Yih Yin from Queenstown joined the group to demonstrate the process of making hand sanitisers.
The mothers then followed instructions to create their very own disinfectants.
Hence, several bottles of DIY disinfectants are now available in lifts to prevent more cases of Covid-19. These efforts highlight a mother’s love can keep many people safe.
In a Facebook post, PM Lee commended the group and wrote,
This kampung spirit and unity is what makes us Singaporean. I am sure there are many more heartwarming instances going on quietly.

We applaud the super mums efforts to keep the kampung spirit alive. However, doctors advise purchasing a proper sanitiser with at least 60% alcohol content.
Note that washing your hands with soap and water is still the most effective way to protect yourself from the virus. While using your own hand sanitiser is convenient, experts recommend using it when there are no restrooms near your immediate vicinity.
It’s nice to have a supply of homemade hand sanitisers in your home. You may buy the ingredients and make several bottles but only purchase ingredients and make enough for your family or local community.
Since everyone is in need of a disinfectant, we’re hoping that supplies will last till the end of the Covid-19 outbreak.
