Car engulfed in flames at JB checkpoint, driver fled after spotting flames
A car unexpectedly caught fire near the Johor Bahru checkpoint on Tuesday (19 Nov) night, prompting the driver to pull over and flee.
According to Oriental Daily News, the incident took place at around 7.15pm on Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, near the Sultan Ibrahim Building.
When the driver noticed flames coming from the front of the car, he quickly pulled over to the side of the road and escaped from the car.
The vehicle involved was reported to be a Toyota Altis sedan.

After the car caught fire, other passing vehicles calmly made their way around it to avoid getting too close to it.
No injuries & casualties reported as driver escaped in time
Johor Bahru South District Police Chief Ra’ut confirmed that the 54-year-old driver managed to flee from the car in time after the blaze started. Soon after, the flames engulfed the entire front of the car.
The Fire and Rescue Department dispatched firefighters to the scene to extinguish the flames at 7.25pm.
The fire was believed to have been caused by a short circuit in the car’s headlight wiring.
No fatalities or injuries were reported in this incident.
