Man in Malaysia goes viral for completing 10km race with his cat
A man in Malaysia has captured the Internet’s attention recently after completing a 10km race with his pet cat perched on his shoulder.
Azhan, more commonly known as “Apak”, uploaded a TikTok video sharing his experience that has since gone viral.
In the 59-second clip, Apak is seen powering through the racecourse with his loyal companion, a grey Maine Coon named Jibek, comfortably settled on his shoulders.

As they make their way along the route, Jibek appears to take in the scenic views. Decked out in stylish blue glasses at the start of the race, it took the term ‘passenger princess’ to a whole new level.
Midway, the fashionable feline even switches to a blue bucket hat to shield itself from the sun.
After crossing the finish line, Jibek proudly sports a medal around its neck, celebrating the race just like his owner.
Netizens gush at adorable video
The video has racked up more than 100,000 likes, with netizens flocking to the comments to admire the unique bond between Apak and his “race partner” Jibek.
Some joked that Jibek would likely lounge around at home to recover from the “tiring race”.
A netizen also joked that Apak brought Jibek to the race as there was no one available to take care of his pet cat.
Others marvelled at the cat’s calm demeanour and ability to stay quiet throughout the race.
In response, Apak attested to his cat’s exemplary behaviour, playfully describing the feline as a “deeply religious and good child”.
Jibek’s 7th year of doing outdoor activities on top of Apak’s shoulders
In response to a comment on his video, Apak explained that he is accustomed to the feline’s 7.5kg weight on his shoulders after seven years of doing outdoor activities together.
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Apak shared that the pair have ventured the outdoors since Jibek was only six months old in 2017.
“We started with hiking hills and mountains, and later we even tried paragliding,” the TikToker said. “In 2022, some friends suggested that we try running events too. Since then, we’ve collected around 45 medals from running events.”
He also added that it was Jibek’s choice to perch itself on his shoulder.
“I tried putting him in a bag, but he kept trying to climb out and would immediately hop onto my shoulder instead,” Apak said. “He’s learned to balance himself, so I don’t really need to train him much!”
