Residents in Bukit Ho Swee HDB finds tap water too hot
Residents of Block 6 Jalan Bukit Ho Swee recently lodged complaints after allegedly enduring “hot” tap water for years.
According to Shin Min Daily News, sixth-floor resident Mr Zeng (surname transliterated from Chinese) claimed the water would get too hot for six hours in the day, from noon to 6pm.
He found that the warm water aligned with sunny days.
Water from faucets would come out hot as if already heated in a water heater. Mr Zeng claimed that it was hot enough to hurt his hands sometimes.
He requested his mother to collect several buckets of tap water in the morning so he could use it to shower when he got home in the evening.
According to Mr Zeng, the water from the taps felt normal at first but got hotter and hotter after about 15 seconds.
On some occasions, Mr Zeng even had to wait until nighttime — when the water temperature returned to normal — to shower.
When Shin Min Daily reporters visited Mr Zeng’s unit recently, they found that the tap water temperature was about 37.6°C.

Mr Zeng added that the recent afternoon rainfalls have been a reprieve — tap water temperatures were relatively normal in the afternoon.
Hot water issue has alleged lasted for years
Other residents also affirmed Mr Zeng’s claims about the warm water.
84-year-old Ms Tan (surname transliterated from Chinese), who has been living in the block for over 40 years, said the issue has persisted for years.
Ms Tan said that while residents adapted to the issue, they were unable to cool down in showers on hot afternoons.
Interestingly, residents on the higher floors appeared to have it worse compared to those living on the lower floors.
Mr Yang (surname transliterated from Chinese), who stays on the ninth floor, said the water only starts to cool at about 7pm.
A thermometer reading of his tap water read 38.2°C.

He also expressed that the water from the tap or shower would get hotter and hotter when left on.
