47-year-old man with disability sells Nasi Lemak in wheelchair to support himself
Mr Mohd Nor Bin Dini, a 47-year-old man living in Kuala Lumpur, has spent half of his life with a disability.
Despite being disabled and facing challenges alone, he expresses contentment with his life and sells Nasi Lemak for a living.
A high fever changed his life
According to WeirdKaya, when he was one year old, Mr Mohd experienced a severe fever that changed his life forever.
Unbeknownst to him, this seemingly minor illness would become the starting point for a lifetime of significant challenges.
His difficult circumstances worsened when doctors informed him that he would gradually lose control of his legs and hands.
This was a devastating prognosis that became a reality over the years.
By the age of 20, Mr Mohd had lost sensation in his legs and fingers completely.
Looking back on a journey marked by hardships and uncertainties, Mr Mohd shared:
It is what it is. I may be weak physically, but mentally I am very strong. God can test me as much as He wants. I will still stand strong.
Sells Nasi Lemak for a living despite disability
Mr Mohd previously attempted to learn sewing as a way to overcome his disability. However, after two years of training, he gave it up upon realising he couldn’t turn it into a career.
He then relocated to Kuala Lumpur, where he assisted his best friend in selling Nasi Lemak at NU Sentral.
Following his friend’s passing, he took over the business and has been managing it for the past seven years.
Mr Mohd’s daily routine involves waking up at 4.30am, selling Nasi Lemak from 7.30am to 12.00pm, and then heading home to rest.

He makes between RM70 and RM90 a day, which is just enough to cover his meals and set aside some savings for the future.
Mr Mohd confesses that it pains him deeply to realise that he cannot live the same life as those without disabilities. He also has no parents, siblings, or a life partner to share his journey with.
However, he chooses to be thankful to be alive, to have a place to live, and to earn an honest income.
Commuting to work a struggle
Mohd believes that Malaysia should do more to support the disabled community, to help make their lives easier rather than making them feel reluctant to seek assistance.
In particular, Mr Mohd’s main struggle is commuting to work. He has to travel one kilometre daily in his wheelchair to reach the bus stop.
Once there, he is often stranded as many drivers are not keen to help him board the bus.
Despite these challenges, Mr Mohd continues to greet each day with a broad smile and inspire everyone who meets him.
