Three male youths to face charges over van theft along Tampines Avenue 9

Three male youths have been arrested over the theft of a van in Tampines on Saturday (23 May), the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a press release on 27 May.

Police were alerted at around 6.45pm that a van parked at a carpark along Tampines Avenue 9 had been stolen.

Officers from Bedok Police Division conducted follow-up investigations and ground enquiries, identifying the three suspects, aged between 17 and 21.

They were arrested over the next two days, on Sunday (24 May) and Monday (25 May). The stolen van was recovered.

One youth to be charged

One of the 17-year-old suspects is set to be charged in court on Thursday (28 May) under Section 379A of the Penal Code 1871, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment and a fine.

Investigations are ongoing for the remaining 17-year-old and 21-year-old suspects.

Police urge vehicle owners to remain vigilant

In their press release, police also remind vehicle owners to adopt the following measures to prevent vehicle theft:

  • Park in well-lit areas.
  • Install an anti-theft alarm and ensure it is maintained.
  • Do not leave keys or transponders unattended.
  • Remove cash, cards, laptops, mobile phones, and other valuables.
  • Lock all doors and roll up windows, even for short periods.

Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
