Man arrested over alleged provocation at National Day celebrations in Malaysia
A man was arrested for allegedly provoking members of the public during the National Day celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya in the early hours of Monday (31 Aug).
The 30-year-old cook was arrested in Putrajaya after five police reports were lodged against him over allegations that he encouraged people to push through barricades to secure seats for the National Day parade.
Crowd surge leaves several injured
A video of the incident, which went viral on Facebook, showed a man wearing an orangey brown shirt allegedly urging people waiting near the seating area gates to move forward.

According to The Star, the clip showed the man allegedly pushing through the crowd, causing a commotion as people surged towards the front.
Several people reportedly fell during the incident and suffered injuries.
The incident is believed to have occurred at around 5am on Monday.
Police chief confirmed the arrest
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed the arrest on Wednesday (2 Sept).
He also appealed to members of the public with information about the incident to come forward and assist with investigations.

“Yes, we have arrested the man in the orange shirt for further investigation under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955,” he said.
Suspect tested positive for cannabis
A urine test conducted on the suspect returned positive for THC, the primary psychoactive component of cannabis, according to authorities.
In addition, the suspect is under investigation under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug consumption.

Police had also secured a one-day remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to facilitate investigations into the public disturbance.
