More showers expected on most days in 2nd half of Sept, may be widespread on 1-2 days
Some relief from the recent dry weather may be coming, as more showers are expected in the second half of September, compared with the first half of the month.
However, they will come with warm and humid nights, said the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) in a weather advisory released on Wednesday (16 Sept).

Thundery showers likely to be localised & of short duration
According to MSS, the thundery showers over the next two weeks are likely to be localised and of short duration.
They will take place across parts of the island on most days, particularly during the late mornings and afternoons.
But on one or two days, the thundery showers may become widespread, as well as moderate to heavy.
MSS attributed this to regional convergence of winds.
As such, the total rainfall for the period is forecast to be “near the long-term average” over most parts of the island.

Southwest Monsoon conditions to continue
Southwest Monsoon conditions, which set in over Singapore and the surrounding region in early June, are prevailing.
This means that winds over Singapore will blow mainly from the southeast or southwest.
The Southwest Monsoon is set to continue till September, MSS previously said.
Several warm and humid nights expected with above-27°C temperatures
As for the temperature, most days will record a daily maximum of between 33°C and 34°C.
On a few days, it could hit around 35°C.
Additionally, warm and humid nocturnal conditions are expected on some nights.
This means minimum temperatures will stay above 27°C.
1st 2 weeks of Sept saw well-below-average rainfall
“Mostly dry” conditions prevailed over the first fortnight of September, though some days saw “brief” thundery showers over parts of the island.
“Well-below-average rainfall” was again recorded, with the area around Changi registering 98% below-average rainfall.

On 11 Sept, moderate to heavy thundery showers fell over many parts of Singapore in the late morning and afternoon, caused by regional wind convergence.
That day, 105mm of rainfall was registered around Scotts Road — the highest daily total rainfall for the fortnight.
Above-34°C temperatures on 12 occasions
Accordingly, daily maximum temperatures went above 34°C on 12 occasions in the first half of this month, MSS said.
The highest daily maximum temperature of 35.3°C was recorded in Sembawang on 9 Sept.
MSS also noted that the nights remained warm, with minimum temperatures staying above 27°C across many parts of Singapore.
