64-year-old delivery rider dies after falling into Tanah Merah swimming pool, Grab promises to provide assistance to family
An elderly Grab delivery rider tragically died on 17 Sept after falling into a condominium swimming pool in Tanah Merah.
His wife of 10 years broke down in tears at Mandai Crematorium.
Grab delivery rider reportedly felt unwell before falling into condo swimming pool
The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told MS News that they received a call for assistance at 8.40pm on 17 Sept, at 58 Tanah Merah Kechil Avenue.
“A 64-year-old man was conveyed unconscious to the hospital where he subsequently passed away,” the police said.
Shin Min Daily News reported that the deceased is Wang Zhicong (transliterated), a Grab delivery rider.
According to a source, Mr Wang went to the Tanah Merah condominium to deliver food, but purportedly felt unwell.

It is understood that he accidentally fell into the swimming pool.
Mr Wang was found unconscious and pulled from the pool after dark. He was later taken to hospital, where he died.
Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play.
Deceased had good relationship with his wife of 10 years
Shin Min reported that Mr Wang married his wife 10 years ago and has no children.
He previously worked as a salesman before transitioning to being a delivery rider after losing his job.
The couple had a good relationship and had just spoken earlier that afternoon.
The widow and her colleague collected Mr Wang’s body from the mortuary on the morning of 18 Sept. They then travelled to Mandai Crematorium at 3pm to arrange for a cremation.

Shin Min reported the widow breaking down in tears at both the mortuary and crematorium.
She declined to be interviewed, as the suddenness of her husband’s death made the situation difficult to accept.
Grab providing assistance to the deceased rider’s family
Grab confirmed the passing of one of their delivery-partner riders to MS News.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones — we grieve alongside them during this painful time.
The Grab spokesperson also said that they were in contact with the deceased’s family and would give full assistance.
Additionally, Grab is working with the relevant authorities during the investigation and said they were unable to share further details at this stage.
