57-year-old man jumps from 12th floor of Ang Mo Kio block into safety life air pack

A 57-year-old man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act on Sunday (20 Sept) after jumping from an HDB block in Ang Mo Kio and landing in a safety life air pack.
Images shared on TikTok showed the man sitting on the ledge outside the 12th-floor common corridor, his legs dangling in the air.

Several rescuers on roof of Ang Mo Kio block work to rescue man
In the clip, several rescuers were seen on the roof one floor above the man, working to save him.
A net had been deployed down the side of the block, usually installed by Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) personnel before they rappel down during a rescue.

The uploader of the video identified the location as Block 645 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6.
Man lies on ground next to safety life air pack
Another video, posted by Singapore Incidents on Facebook, depicted the scene after the man had apparently jumped.
In the clip, recorded from someone in the block, the shirtless man lay on the ground next to two safety life air packs, surrounded by rescue personnel.

He was soon lifted onto a stretcher.

Sheets were brought out to shield him from prying eyes.

A large crowd had gathered to watch from neighbouring blocks, across the road and upstairs.

The TikTok video also showed that a large area of around the block had been cordoned off by the police.

Man sent to hospital after jumping off Ang Mo Kio block
In response to queries from AsiaOne, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said it received a call for assistance from Block 654 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 on Sunday.
When officers arrived, they found a 57-year-old man sitting on the ledge outside a residential unit.
Officers from SPF’s Crisis Negotiation Unit were activated as it was assessed that he might pose a danger to himself.
At about 6.20pm, the man jumped off and landed on the safety life air pack.
He was conveyed to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in a conscious state.
The man was subsequently apprehended under Section 7(1) of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008, which states that the police can apprehend anyone believed to be a danger to themselves or others.
