23-year-old woman in Japan found dead after consulting police about her former lover turned stalker

Woman in Japan stabbed to death after reporting that former lover was stalking her

On Wednesday (30 Sept), a 23-year-old woman was found bleeding profusely just outside of her apartment in Okinawa, Japan.

Police received an alert at 8.30am and rushed to the scene where they discovered Rin Zamami unconscious.

According to Yomiuri Shimbun, paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Woman had reported former lover stalking her

At the time of the murder, Ms Zamami was living with her young child. An autopsy concluded that she had died due to stab wounds on her neck that led to fatal blood loss. She also had multiple defensive wounds on her arms.

Police said the victim had reported to police in Dec 2025 that her boyfriend had been stalking her.

She had requested for authorities to make him stop harassing her online.

In Feb 2026, police issued a restraining order against the victim’s former lover due to his stalker behaviour.

Unfortunately, in Sept, Ms Zamami alerted police that a tracking device had been attached to her car.

Police are currently investigating if there was any connection between the tracking device and the murder.

Meanwhile, police also tracked down her former lover as a person of interest in the case. He was found injured with a bloody knife later that day.

He was conveyed to the hospital for his injuries, with the police planning to question him at a later date.
