Taoist priest shares why we don’t see any dinosaur ghosts lingering around Singapore
A Singapore Taoist priest has offered an explanation for a question you probably never thought to ask. If some people can supposedly “see” ghosts with their “third eye’, why don’t they see the ghosts of dinosaurs?
This interesting question was recently addressed by @qztaoism, a Taoist priest and content creator, on 5 Oct.
Dinosaur spirits would have dispersed long ago
The post, captioned “Probably a post that no one ask for”, explored the topic from a Taoist perspective.
The Original Poster (OP) also drew on traditional Chinese ideas about souls, ghosts and “qi” (energy).
According to him, Taoism does not directly address dinosaurs, but its concepts about spirits can offer an explanation.

He explained that, in traditional Chinese thought, a person is understood to possess both “hun” (魂) and “po” (魄), broadly conceived as the “yang” and “yin” aspects of the soul, respectively.
After death, the “hun” is said to rise while the “po” sinks with the body. Both then gradually dissolve back into the “qi” of heaven and earth.

A spirit may linger when something holds it together, such as strong attachment, unresolved karma, or offerings from descendants.
By this reasoning, a dinosaur that died millions of years ago would have had more than enough time for its spirit to disperse.
Animal spirits may return to nature faster
According to the post, animal spirits are generally “weaker” than human spirits.
The reason being animals are viewed as having “less refined consciousness”.
Therefore, their “qi” would usually return to nature relatively quickly compared to a human spirit.
These animals could potentially be reborn “quite quickly”, unless they become animal spirits (妖精) through spiritual practice.

The Taoist priest also shared another possible explanation: perception itself may be shaped by culture and expectations.
He said that those with the “third eye” generally perceive figures that their own traditions have taught them to recognise.
These may include ancestors, deities, and ghosts wearing familiar clothing. Dinosaurs, meanwhile, are not part of Chinese ghost lore.
Netizens “enlightened” by TikTok post
The TikTok post has since resonated with netizens, with many of them “enlightened” by the OP’s explanation.
A netizen said the idea of a dinosaur ghost had never crossed their mind till now.
