Hai Kee Teochew Char Kuey Teow founder is retiring after 54 years in business
On Wednesday (23 Oct), Hai Kee Teochew Char Kuey Teow announced on their Facebook page that their founder, Mr Low, will be retiring.
The popular Char Kuey Teow eatery had been in business for over 54 years, building a loyal fanbase along the way.

“After 54 years of serving Char Kuey Teow, my dad is retiring,” Mr Low’s son, Alvin — who runs the Facebook page — said in the post. “We want to take this moment to thank all his supporters who have stood by him throughout this incredible journey.”
He also shared that his father will be holding a final meet-up on Friday (22 Nov) to show his appreciation to supporters.
It remains unclear if the stall will continue operations following Mr Low’s retirement.
Stall has been closed since 9 Oct
Although the reason for Mr Low’s retirement was not made known in the post, the stall has been shut since Wednesday (9 Oct).
“Hai Kee CKT will be closed from 9 Oct till further notice. We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” Mr Alvin wrote in a Facebook post on 9 Oct.

Without divulging any information about his father’s condition, Alvin said in a separate Facebook post that the hawker “is well and resting at home“.
Well-known for its flavourful Char Kuey Teow
Mr Low’s Hai Kee Teochew Char Kuey Teow is often regarded by many as one of the best char kuay teow in the country. The experienced hawker firmly believes in frying one plate of noodles at a time, resulting in snaking queues at his stall.
However, the long waiting hours did not deter his customers.
Many are prepared to brave the two to three hours’ wait at the stall for a plate of the flavourful, sweet and savoury Char Kuey Teow dish.
In a post on the stall’s Facebook page, a netizen shared his experience queueing for Mr Low’s signature dish.

“Uncle Low’s closing time was 9pm and there were still 16 pax in front of us at 8.30pm. I asked if he would be able to accommodate us [and] he nodded,” the netizen recounted.
“Grateful that Uncle worked extra hard to accommodate everyone tonight.”
