Jet2 passenger refuses to pay S$15 for “frozen” tuna sandwich
A 79-year-old woman from the United Kingdon (UK) was escorted off a Jet2 flight by armed police on 3 Nov after refusing to pay £9 (S$15) for a tuna sandwich, which she described as still “frozen”.
She also faced a warning about being blacklisted from all UK airlines.
According to Daily Mail, Lily Ifield, a retired secretary, was on a flight from Stansted Airport in Essex to Bodrum, Turkey when she ordered a tuna sandwich onboard.

However, the tuna sandwich she received was allegedly “cold” and “soggy”, and she thus refused to pay for the food.
An argument ensued between Ms Ifield and the flight attendant who allegedly told her she had to pay as the item had already been unwrapped.
When Ms Ifield said the food could make her unwell, the cabin crew retorted: “This isn’t a restaurant, it’s a plane”.
Upon landing in Turkey, the passenger and her daughter were escorted off the plane by the police.
Airline accuses passengers of “disruptive behaviour”
Following the incident, Ms Ifield has spoken to several UK news outlets such as The Sun, alleging they were treated like “master criminals”.
She claimed that although they were eventually released, the experience “ruined” their holiday.
On 7 Nov, the mother-daughter pair flew back to the UK on another Jet2 flight.

A spokesperson for Jet2 claimed that the passengers “displayed continuous disruptive and unpleasant behaviour on board”.
This included the illicit consumption of alcohol that they had purchased in duty free and brought on board.
“As a family-friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to such behaviour, and we make it very clear that customers cannot consume their own alcohol on flights,” said the spokesperson to BBC News.
Ms Ifield criticised Jet2’s comments, calling them “disgusting”.
She denied bringing alcohol on the plane, but admitted to purchasing “two wines each”.
