E-hailing driver in Malaysia charges passengers for AC use
An e-hailing driver in Malaysia was discovered charging his passengers around RM20 (S$6) to RM30 (S$9) before using the vehicle’s air conditioning.
The photo taken by a passenger was posted on X on Sunday (17 Nov) and has since gained 890,200 views.
However, it was not stated where exactly in the country the e-hailing driver operates.
Driver charges up to S$9 for AC use
In the photo, a sign above the driver’s seat implies that passengers have to pay extra if they want the driver to turn on the air conditioning.
A fan speed of 1 would incur a charge of RM20, 2 for RM25, and 3 for RM30.
However, the driver also offers free AC use for passengers who meet certain criteria.
A fan speed of 1 is free for passengers who book a 6-seater ride, while “basic air conditioning” will be provided for those sitting in the front passenger seat.
Notably, the photo also shows the said passenger seat bearing two small portable fans in front of it.
Netizens complain it’s too much
As expected, netizens were angered by the driver’s additional charges, calling him a “pig”, “greedy” and a “driver from hell”.
One commenter quipped that passengers should also charge the driver according to the rating they want to receive on the ride-hailing app.
Several netizens tagged the e-hailing service provider Grab in their comments on the post, demanding that action be taken against the driver.
However, Grab reportedly said they are unable to verify if the driver is affiliated with the company but would launch further investigation if they found more information.
