United Airlines pilot buys pizzas for passengers after massive flight delay
Flight disruptions often come with frustration and messed up schedules, but one United Airlines pilot was able to turn a tense situation into a heartwarming experience.
After making an emergency landing due to a medical situation, he ordered pizzas for all his passengers, providing much-needed comfort during a stressful time.
The story was shared by one of the passengers, Tanya Stamos, on TikTok, where she praised the pilot’s thoughtful gesture.
Flight rerouted due to medical emergency
On 13 Sept, Ms Stamos was on a flight from San Francisco to Houston when things took an unexpected turn.
According to Trip.com, a direct flight from San Francisco to Houston typically takes around four hours.
However, mid-flight, the plane was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger suffered a medical emergency.
The aircraft touched down in New Mexico at approximately 4pm, and the affected passenger was rushed to the hospital.
Pilot orders 30 pizzas for passengers
After the emergency landing, passengers deplaned and waited for their flight to resume.
Ms Stamos mentioned that the pilot, feeling guilty about the unexpected delay, ordered 30 pizzas from a local shop and had them delivered right to their gate.
She added that the pilot “made sure all 150 passengers ate before he made himself a plate”.
Photos she posted even showed the pilot personally serving the pizzas to passengers.
At around 11pm, about seven hours after the diversion, the flight to Houston finally resumed.
United Airlines offered nothing but praise for the pilot’s actions.
In a statement, the company said: “We love to see our pilots go above and beyond for our customers when the unexpected happens. The flight diverted due to a medical concern with a passenger, and we worked to get customers back on their way to Houston quickly.”
