Sambar deer was killed while reportedly attempting to cross Mandai Road

Another sambar deer was been killed on Mandai Road, this time during an accident with a lorry and motorcycle.

This took place on Monday (2 Dec) morning at about 6.30am, according to a post on the Love Sambar Facebook page.

It also shared a photo of the animal lying motionless on the road.

Sambar deer killed near junction with Mandai Bus Depot

In its post, Love Sambar said it was alerted to the incident by a follower who had passed by Mandai Road on his way to work that morning.

It took place near the junction with a service road heading towards Mandai Bus Depot, it added.

In a subsequent post that afternoon, Love Sambar said the male sambar deer had emerged from the foliage and attempted to cross the road, heading towards the Upper Seletar Reservoir forested area.

It was only about 20m away from the junction, the post claimed.

Sambar deer killed by impact of both vehicles in Mandai

However, the deer was first hit by a small delivery truck, the post said.

It was then hit by a motorcycle.

The animal died from the impact of both vehicles.

Police says accident involved lorry, motorcycle & sambar deer

In response to queries from MS News, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said it was alerted to an accident at about 6.35am on Monday (2 Dec).

It took place along Mandai Road in the direction towards Mandai Avenue, and involved a lorry, motorcycle and sambar deer.

The Land Transport Authority’s traffic news account on X warned motorists that morning of an accident on Mandai Road towards the Seletar Expressway, after Lorong Lada Hitam.

66-year-old motorcyclist sent to hospital

As a result of the accident, a 66-year-old male motorcyclist was conveyed to the hospital in a conscious state, SPF said.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), which was alerted at 6.40am, told MS News that he was sent to Woodlands Health.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Second sambar deer killed in Mandai this year

This is the second fatal accident involving a sambar deer in Singapore this year, according to Love Sambar.

In July, a sambar deer was hit by a taxi, also on Mandai Road, and died at the scene.

The latest incident also comes three days after a herd of sambar deer were seen grazing on grass alongside the Bukit Timah Expressway.
