Man taken to hospital after drinking partner attacks him with penknife outside Toa Payoh coffeeshop
A 49-year-old man slashed another older uncle with a penknife in Toa Payoh at around 8.30pm on National Day (9 Aug).
According to Shin Min Daily News, the two people involved were drinking alcohol together outside the coffeeshop at Block 168 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh.
A witness claimed that the two men had an argument while drinking and then left to settle the problem through other means.
He added that they both lived nearby and often drank together in the coffeeshop.
Attacker flees after injuring victim
At a nearby void deck, the assailant attacked the 59-year-old victim with a penknife before fleeing the scene.

The witness subsequently saw the victim sitting on the ground, blood gushing out from his head.
After the police arrived, a third man who had previously been sitting with them returned.
Police officers allegedly told him to call the assailant on the phone and ask him to come back.

The assailant returned to the scene of the crime, and the police promptly arrested him.

Several police officers had cordoned off the scene of the crime, with bloodstains visible on the ground.
Nearby, a family in red National Day colours gawked at the sight in curiosity.

Speaking to MS News, the police stated that they arrested the 49-year-old man for voluntarily causing hurt using a dangerous weapon.
Officers seized the penknife as a case exhibit.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) conveyed the victim in a conscious state to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
