Woman arrested for stealing cable wires while holding child, admits to drug use

A 45-year-old woman in Kalasin Province, Thailand, was arrested while carrying her infant, after police found her with stolen electrical wires and methamphetamine, sparking outrage among residents who had endured repeated cable thefts.

According to Channel 7, police arrested the woman — identified only as A — on 12 Nov after villagers reported multiple incidents of power cables being cut in a residential complex in the Mueang Kalasin District.

Residents grew suspicious when they repeatedly spotted her loitering near the affected area.

Officers eventually found her walking along a road with her baby.

She appeared visibly anxious during questioning, prompting a bag check, which uncovered one meth pill and seven rolls of stripped electrical wire.

Woman admits to drug use & stealing wires for scrap money

During interrogation, A confessed to buying two meth pills for 60 baht (S$2.40) from a local woman for personal use.

She also admitted to stealing electrical wires two days earlier, stripping them to remove the inner aluminium, which she then sold as scrap.

A man allegedly helped her sell the aluminium for 100 baht (S$4), of which she kept 60 baht.

Police later brought her back to the scene for a crime reenactment. A urine test returned positive for narcotics, leading to her immediate handover to investigators.

Husband arrested for theft just a week earlier

Police noted that just a week earlier, A’s husband had also been arrested for theft.

The couple reportedly funded their drug use through repeated property thefts.

Authorities said A faces charges for both theft and drug possession, while police continue investigating possible links to other recent thefts in the area.
