The incident has drawn mixed reactions online, with some netizens expressing outrage, while others were left puzzled by the man’s actions.
Man seen meddling with corridor plant at 6.15am
On 21 Dec, Instagram page @sgfollowsall shared a video submitted by a follower. According to the timestamp on the footage, the incident occurred at around 6.15am on 18 Dec.
The CCTV clip shows a man approaching what appears to be a Zanzibar Gem houseplant, also known as a ZZ plant, placed along the corridor.
He was carrying a large backpack with what appeared to be camouflage patterns, though the black-and-white footage makes it difficult to make out finer details.

The man then adjusted the pot before making a strange motion that resembled the plucking of leaves.
He was also seen fiddling with the base of the plant for a brief moment.

After a short while, the man walked away, leaving the plant looking largely undisturbed. However, the description accompanying the video told a more troubling story.
“My friend’s plants died because her neighbour did something to her plant. For example, [plucking] the plant out,” the follower alleged.
It remains unclear whether the plant shown in the footage is the same one that later died.

The post went on to warn residents in the Bukit Batok area to “beware of this man”, adding that the follower hoped others would not be affected by his alleged plant-killing actions.
Netizens divided over man’s actions
Reactions in the comments section were split.
One netizen questioned why the man would allegedly meddle with someone else’s potted plant in the first place, commenting: “Like nothing better to do at home meh? Free shopping spree?”

One commenter remarked that if the man were to touch their plants, they would both “have a lot to discuss”.

However, one commenter took a more sceptical view, suggesting that the actions shown in the CCTV footage looked minor, even likening them to casual “gardening”.
They added that there could be other clips showing more serious acts that were not included in the video.
