Video of kids in Malaysia stomping cat prompts investigation
On 31 March, a video of two kids in Malaysia dragging around a cat and stomping on it went viral. The shocking video caused outrage online, and many began to report the incident to authorities.
As a result, the Terengganu Department of Veterinary Services announced that they had begun investigating the case that very day.
Kids stomp on cat
In the clip, a young boy is seen stomping on the cat as it lies on the ground. He then grabs a slipper and smacks it.

Meanwhile, a girl can be seen holding onto a rope that is tied to the cat. She begins pulling on the rope, dragging the cat along.
As this occurred, the boy threw his slipper at the cat before approaching it again to stomp it once more.

That cat can be seen moving during this, but not aggressively struggling against the two kids.
Text written on the clip claims the incident occurred in the Malaysian state of Terengganu.
Authorities probing incident
When a surge of public complaints came in, the Terengganu State Department of Veterinary Services quickly responded on Facebook. They said they have begun an investigation into the incident.
In the media statement, the authorities warned that such acts of animal cruelty are a violation of existing laws.
Authorities also warned against public speculation or sharing unverified information, as it may affect the ongoing investigation.
The department added: “Protecting animal welfare is a shared responsibility, and the Department is committed to ensuring that justice is upheld.”
