Indonesian PE teacher runs 4km to work to help reduce fuel consumption
A physical education (PE) teacher from Bojonegoro, East Java, Indonesia, has captured public attention by running 4km to school to support a fuel-saving policy.
In a video shared on his Instagram, he records himself running to his workplace while clad in a brown civil servant uniform and carrying a backpack.
He can be seen running past various locations until he reaches his school.

The OP also tags the regent of Bojonegoro Regency in his post, suggesting his preference for a running commute over biking.

Completes his 4km run in 15 minutes
According to deTik News, Ahmad Zaki Febiansyah, a 34-year-old PE teacher at SMPN 1 Kasiman, completes 4km in just 15 minutes, maintaining an elite average pace of 3.7 minutes per kilometre.
Mr Zaki told MS News that he has started running to school after the launch of the “Bike To Work” policy by the Bojonegoro Regency Government to reduce fuel consumption.
With his passion for running, he chooses to run rather than bike. His dedication is a round-trip effort, as he also runs back home once his shift ends.

Additionally, Mr Zaki stated that his actions serve as a “living example” of a healthy lifestyle for his colleagues and, more importantly, his students.
He is a running coach and has participated in several running events
On his Instagram profile, he describes himself as a running coach. He is also the founder of a running community, Bojonegoro Runners.
He is an active participant in various championships. Mr Zaki has collected 75 medals from a wide range of running events, reports Kompas.
When asked how he prepares his routine, he explained that he packs his teaching essentials in advance. He also performs a proper warm-up to prevent injuries during his run.
After a session, he will eat and drink to restore his energy to continue with his work.
Local government encourages residents to commute by bicycle to work
His initiative aligns with the Bojonegoro Regency Government’s newly implemented commuting policy.
As of Monday (30 March), civil servants (ASN) living within 7km of their workplaces are encouraged to commute by bicycle as part of a wider push for sustainability.

The policy was formalised under Circular Letter No. 065/132/412.032/2026, issued by the Bojonegoro Regency.
It supports national efforts to reduce fuel consumption and cut official travel costs. It also aims to lower carbon emissions in government workplaces, as outlined by Indonesia’s President.
Runs every Monday in accordance with the government’s weekly program
To follow the weekly program, Mr Zaki schedules his runs for every Monday.
However, his routine is flexible, and he will switch to cycling on the days he is not feeling fit.
