Singapore customer questions weight difference after paying S$5 for extra 50g of tuna poke

A customer has taken to TikTok to share his frustration after claiming he received less tuna poke than expected despite paying extra for it.

Customer allegedly receives less tuna poke

In a video posted on 29 April, @iamcalebtay asked whether he had been short-changed by Poke Theory Singapore after purchasing an additional serving of tuna poke for S$5.

In the caption, he asked if living in Singapore is really expensive now or whether @Poke Theory SG short-changed him?

The video then showed the Original Poster (OP) weighing the extra portion of tuna that he purchased. According to the OP, the add-on was supposed to be 50g.

“Does this look like 50g of poke? Omg. This was S$5 for extra tuna poke,” said the text overlay in the clip.

Uses a weighing scale to check

To verify his claims, the OP used a weighing scale and went through the process on camera.

After zeroing the scale, he placed the tuna into a bowl, ensuring that all the pieces were accounted for.

“Okay, so that it’s fair… but look at this… it’s 39g,” he said, before adding more scraps from the container.

Even after including everything, the final weight came up to 43g, still short of the promised 50g.

“So, it’s 43g. Okay, but still, I think it’s super expensive, andt yes, exactly, it’s not even five zero,” the OP said in the video.

Netizens share their views on discrepancy

The post has since sparked discussion online, with netizens expressing their views about the discrepancy.

A netizen felt that the F&B outlet “can give more but not less”, to which the OP replied that they would have posted too if they had received more tuna.

Poke Theory conducted an internal review

In response to MS News’ queries, Poke Theory said they are aware of a recent video circulating on social media regarding the portion sizes of their tuna add-ons.

“We take all customer feedback seriously and have completed an internal review of the incident,” said a Poke Theory spokesperson.

They shared that the standard 50g portion for poke add-ons is defined as the combined weight of premium raw fish and the signature marinades or sauces.

The S$5 price shown in the video applies only to third-party delivery platforms such as GrabFood and Foodpanda, where additional service fees are included.

In-store pricing is lower at S$4 per extra 50g, offering better value for dine-in customers.

Acknowledged slight variance and reached out to OP

An internal review of the Novena Square order, including preparation photos, found that transferring poke from bowl to container can affect perceived portion size.

However, it was acknowledged that there may have been a slight variance in this particular serving during a busy shift.

They responded to both Instagram and TikTok posts and also contacted the OP privately to clarify their standards and apologised for the experience.

They also offered the OP a S$30 service recovery voucher as goodwill to encourage a better return experience.

“At Poke Theory, we pride ourselves on being a brand that is human, transparent, and committed to quality,” said the Poke Theory spokesperson.

“We have used this feedback as a training opportunity for our frontline teams to ensure our portioning remains precise and consistent across all stores.”

MS News has also reached out to the OP for more information.
