Motorcyclist crashes into girl after running red light at high speed

A 13-year-old girl was hospitalised after she was launched several metres by a motorcyclist who collided into her after running the red light in Samut Prakan Province, Thailand, on 21 July.

A clip of the incident circulating online has garnered 3.1 million views as of writing, with many commenters expressing outrage.

According to Khaosod, the motorcyclist claimed he did not see the red light.

Girl thrown off several metres

In the clip, the girl can be seen waiting at the traffic lights to cross the road.

Notably, despite the traffic light already being red for vehicles, a motorcycle continued to drive along the road.

The girl also looked left and right to check for traffic before starting to cross.

Despite her caution, just a few steps into the road, a motorcyclist sped into view and crashed into her.

The impact immediately caused the girl to slam to the ground and skid for several metres before coming to a stop.

Meanwhile, the motorcyclist ploughed straight into her before losing balance and toppling over a short while later.

Passersby quickly rushed to move the girl onto the sidewalk to keep her safe from traffic before they called emergency services.

Motoryclist & teen sent to hospital

Rescuers were alerted to the incident at around 6.10pm.

They found the teen with severe injuries to her right leg and back.

She also suffered abrasions and bruises on her face.

The motorcyclist, identified as 31-year-old Nattawut, also sustained injuries including abrasions to his face and body.

Both parties were conveyed to the hospital.

Man claims not to have seen red light

When questioned by police, Nattawut claimed he did not see the red light and does not recall what happened leading up to the accident.

He also insisted that he was not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time.

Authorities said they will further question both parties to determine whether they will file charges against the motorcyclist.
