Motorist in Thailand finds dead newborn baby abandoned in grass, mistook it for a doll initially
On Monday (7 Sept) afternoon, a motorist in Thailand was stunned after he found a newborn baby dead and abandoned in some grass.
Authorities said the newborn baby had been dead for a couple of days based on the decomposition.
According to Khaosod, an investigation is currently underway to track down the baby’s mother.
Motorist found dead baby by the side of road
Authorities received an alert at 6.30pm that a baby had been found on the side of the road in Pathum Thani province. Photos showed emergency responders retrieving the baby’s dead body from a field of grass beside a dirt road.
The 51-year-old man who made the discovery said he was on his way to pick up his son to go to the market. On the way, he looked to the side and discovered what he initially believed to be a doll.
However, his suspicions were aroused when he noticed flies swarming around the “doll.”
He then asked his son to come help him investigate, and that was when they discovered that it was actually a newborn baby girl. They then immediately notified the authorities.

Investigation is underway
Authorities reportedly discovered the baby girl with the umbilical cord still attached. The body was also bloated and beginning to decompose. It had allegedly been dead for approximately two to three days.
Another piece of the cord was also discovered around five metres away near a well.
Authorities suspected that a dog may have moved the baby from the well to where it was discovered due to several marks present on the body.

An investigation is currently underway, with authorities sending the baby’s body for an autopsy and reviewing security footage from the surrounding area to trace the mother.
