After handing over their toddler to his sister, the 43-year-old suspect surrendered to police and admitted to stabbing his 39-year-old wife on the same evening.

Kulim District Police Chief, Superintendent Syamsul Sinring, identified the victim as S. Sila, Malay Mail reported.

The incident occurred in the family’s master bedroom, the police chief said in a statement on 15 Sept.

Initial findings revealed that the incident was believed to have arisen from the couple arguing over jealousy.

The police chief said the suspect admitted to stabbing his wife 13 times using a folding knife.

These included seven stab wounds in her chest, five in her stomach, and one in her right rib.

He then met with his sister at the Juru Rest and Service (R&R) area in Penang to hand over the toddler.

“The suspect also informed his sister that he stabbed his wife before going to Lunas Police Station to surrender,” Mr Syamsul said.

The suspect subsequently surrendered himself at Lunas Police Station at around 9pm, where he was arrested.

He also handed over a 20cm folding knife believed to have been used in the stabbing, Harian Metro reported.

Meanwhile, family members took the victim to Kulim Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9.30pm.

Mr Syamsul said initial interviews with the couple’s neighbours revealed that they did not hear the couple arguing. Police presume this was due to the heavy rain at the time of the incident.

Police investigating case as murder

The police chief said the unemployed suspect tested negative for drugs in a urine test. Additionally, he did not have a criminal record.

Meanwhile, the victim’s body has been sent to the forensic medicine department of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star for an autopsy.

For now, the police believe the incident was caused by an argument over jealousy and domestic issues.

They are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code (murder).
