Monitor lizards caught in deep embrace at Sengkang park connector
Two monitor lizards were recently spotted standing upright and appearing to be hugging each other at the Sengkang park connector.
The unusual encounter was captured on video and shared on TikTok on 15 Sept.
Monitor lizards seen “hugging” each other
The video, posted by TikTok user @saralovesandwiches, showed the two large reptiles standing on their hind legs while wrapping their forelimbs around each other.
The lizards appeared as if they were embracing, with their bodies pressed against each other as they “hugged” on a footpath beside some greenery.

At one point, one of the monitor lizards could be seen adjusting its grip.
This was followed by the other lizard doing the same as they continued the embrace.
This seemingly warmed the heart of the Original Poster (OP), who captioned the video, “you and me”.
Some netizens said lizards were fighting instead
The scene also prompted some amused reactions online, with some netizens suggesting that the lizards were fighting.

One TikTok user pointed out that the pair were male monitor lizards trying to “establish dominance over territory or mates”.

Monitor lizards spotted near Sengkang condominium
Speaking to MS News, the OP, Sara Cher, 26, said she encountered the unusual sight on 15 Sept at around 9.50am.
Sara, who owns a pet travel brand, also shared that the exact location was at the Sengkang park connector outside the Rivercove Residences condominium.
“I was actually out walking my dog Nala, who inspired my brand, when I spotted the two monitor lizards,” she said.
“My first reaction was honestly that they looked like they were hugging.”
Sara told MS News that it was such a funny sight that she quickly took out her handphone to take a video.
“I only realised afterwards that they were most likely fighting for territory or that a mate was nearby,” she said.
Sara said she then left without witnessing the aftermath, while more people arrived to see and film the pair.
