A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after being involved in a fatal accident with an elderly pedestrian in Yishun.

The 74-year-old man suffered serious head injuries and passed away after allegedly being hit by the cyclist, his son said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (16 Sept).

Cyclist allegedly hit man near petrol station in Yishun

Mr Tan Bo Xue said the accident happened on Tuesday (15 Sept) afternoon at the pedestrian or cycling path along Yishun Avenue 5.

His father, Mr Tan Liang Kwong, was hit by a cyclist near a Jollibee outlet in a Caltex petrol station, he alleged.

According to Google Street View screenshots he attached, the petrol station is near the junction of Yishun Avenue 5 and Yishun Street 11.

Elderly man suffers head injuries & dies 2 days later

After the accident, the elderly Mr Tan sustained serious head injuries, including internal bleeding in the brain and a skull fracture, his son said.

At the time of the post, he was receiving treatment in hospital.

However, his son posted on Friday (18 Sept) to update that his father had died the day before — two days after the accident.

His wake is being held till 21 Sept at Block 132 Yishun Street 11.

Police report made, son appeals for witnesses

The younger Mr Tan said a police report had been made, but he was looking for witnesses who had seen the cyclist or his father.

He also appealed for dashcam or CCTV footage of the accident, as well as phone photos or video recordings.

Additionally, he wanted to get in touch with a kind passer-by who had called the ambulance for his father, as he was a potential witness.

Man passes away after being conveyed to KTPH: SPF

In response to queries from MS News, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said it received a call for assistance at 11.45am on 15 Sept.

It came from Block 741 Yishun Avenue 5, which is opposite the petrol station.

A 74-year-old male pedestrian was sent to the hospital in a conscious state.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), which was alerted at the same time, told MS News that he was conveyed to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH).

However, he subsequently passed away there.

Teenage cyclist arrested for rash act causing death

A 16-year-old male cyclist was arrested for the offence of rash act causing death, SPF said.

Under Section 304A of the Penal Code 1871, those convicted of this offence face up to five years in prison and/or a fine.

Police investigations are ongoing.
