Brothers seen searching through rubbish bins outside restaurants
A police officer came across two brothers searching through rubbish bins outside restaurants and convenience stores during a late-night patrol in Nonthaburi Province, Thailand.
When asked why they were doing this, the brothers said it was to find food for them and their bedridden mother.
Brothers struggled to find jobs
Police Lance Corporal Phukit Phetkhong shared on Facebook that he encountered the brothers at around 2.30am on 23 Sept.

He learned that the older brother, who is 28 years old, studied political science at a prestigious university where he eventually graduated from.
He also previously interned with local government agencies.
However, he has been unemployed for two months and could no longer afford travel and application expenses.
Meanwhile, the younger brother recently finished high school and also struggled to find work.
Family’s water and electricity were cut off
The brothers’ mother became bedridden due to a road accident, The Thaiger reported.
Their father had left them years ago, forcing the older brother to become the family’s main provider.
After he lost his job, the family no longer had a source of income.
Two months ago, their water and electricity were cut off. To charge their phones, they had to go to a petrol station.

To get by, the brothers scour the neighbourhood every other night, searching for leftover food to eat, or bottles, cardboard, and discarded household items to sell.
The family has 600 baht (S$23) saved, but is afraid to spend it on food as they might need it for an emergency.
Help pours in for brothers and bedridden mother
On 25 Sept, Mr Phukit posted an update saying municipal officials and other agencies have come forward to help the two brothers.

He added that the younger brother has secured a job and a kind individual is helping him open a bank account.
Later, even more help poured in for the brothers, with police officials providing funds to help them.
Additionally, various government agencies have given the family assistance with water, electricity, and food.
