Man to be charged after allegedly setting fire to undergarment in oil tin outside Raffles Place mosque
A 50-year-old Chinese man will face charges in court after he allegedly set fire to an undergarment placed in an oil tin outside a mosque in Raffles Place.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said it received a report about the fire outside the mosque at 80 Raffles Place at around 9pm last Friday (25 Sept).
The address corresponds to Masjid Moulana Mohamed Ali, located in the basement of UOB Plaza.

A member of the public put out the fire, and there were no injuries, the Straits Times (ST) reported.
Man allegedly set fire to undergarment in oil tin
Preliminary police investigations found that the man had allegedly placed an oil tin at the entrance of the mosque.
He then allegedly set fire to an undergarment placed inside the tin before leaving the area.

Police said ground enquiries and footage from cameras helped them identify the man.
Officers subsequently arrested him and seized a lighter as evidence.
Man to be charged over dangerous fire risk
The man was charged in court on 26 Sept for causing or contributing to the risk of a dangerous fire.
The offence carries a jail term of up to one year, a fine, or both.

Police said they have “zero tolerance” for acts that endanger the lives or safety of others.
They added that they “will not hesitate to act against those who blatantly disregard the law”.
The police statement did not state a motive for the alleged act.
