Drugs found in motorcycle at Tuas Checkpoint led to raid at residence of man arrested in Tampines
Two men were arrested and more than S$1 million worth of drugs were seized during an operation that kicked off when a motorcyclist was busted at the Tuas Checkpoint.
This led to the arrest of a man in Tampines and a raid at his residence, where more drugs were found, said the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) in a joint news release on Monday (28 Sept).

Drugs found in packets labelled as biscuits at Tuas Checkpoint
On 23 Sept, the Malaysia-registered motorcycle attempted to enter Singapore via Tuas Checkpoint.
However, ICA officers referred it for enhanced checks.
In the motorcycle’s rear box, sealed packets labelled as commercial biscuits were uncovered.
As they were suspected to contain controlled drugs, CNB was immediately alerted.
CNB’s further checks uncovered more similar sealed packets.
Eventually, about 6,961g of heroin, 1,116g of ‘Ice’ and 1,032g of cannabis were seized from the motorcycle.

The authorities subsequently arrested a 32-year-old Malaysian man in connection with the suspected attempt to smuggle drugs into Singapore.

Follow-up investigations were conducted, with CNB subsequently launching an operation in the vicinity of Tampines Street 83.

There, a 41-year-old Singaporean man was arrested for suspected drug offences.
His residence was searched by CNB officers, who uncovered and seized about:
- 790g of heroin
- 602g of cannabis
- 127g of ‘Ice’
- 51g of ‘Ecstasy’ tablets
- 21g of ketamine
- S$33,086 in cash

Drugs from Tuas Checkpoint & Tampines worth over S$1M
The total amount of drugs seized is estimated to be worth more than S$1 million, ICA and CNB said.
Just the heroin, ‘Ice’ and cannabis alone could potentially feed the addiction of about 4,598 abusers for a week.
Investigations are ongoing.
Death penalty possible for trafficking, importing & exporting controlled drugs
ICA and CNB noted that trafficking in a controlled drug, offering to do so, or any act or offer in preparation for or for the purpose of trafficking, is an offence under Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973 (MDA).
This applies whether the offender does so on their own behalf or on somebody else’s behalf, even if that other person is overseas.
Those convicted of trafficking more than 15g of diamorphine, or “pure heroin”, or more than 500g of cannabis may face the mandatory death penalty.
Under Section 7 of the MDA, those found guilty of importing into or exporting from Singapore more than 15g of heroin, more than 250g of methamphetamine, or more than 500g of cannabis may also face the death penalty.
