The Kim Chuan Depot (KCD) community cat has been living in the area since 2008.
Affectionately named Cassidy, the cat’s name is a playful take on the depot’s initials.
Unfortunately, in April, the feline got “badly hurt” in an accident, and both of its back legs broke as a result.
Although the cat required treatment, it found solace in the arms of the SMRT staff, who eventually nursed the cat back to health.

In a post by SMRT on Facebook on 1 Oct, KCD said that the depot has been Cassidy’s home since 2008.
Although no one knows how it got there, Cassidy “probably found [its] way” to the depot and stayed after people began providing treats.

According to SMRT, you can spot Cassidy hanging around KCD for a nap, playing hide-and-seek and finding treats.
However, the feline suffered a “big ouch” in April when both its back legs broke.

On the morning of 12 April, Cassidy was found in a pool of blood outside the KCD compound, according to his caretakers.
While the cause of the accident is unknown, it resulted in the amputation of a shattered leg.
“The vet tried very hard to help me,” the post writes. “The other needed lots of treatment too. I was scared.”

SMRT family to the rescue
The journey to recovery wasn’t easy, especially for Cassidy.
In a follow-up post on 5 Oct, Cassidy updated that it had plenty of visits to the vet and had to take medicine as well.
In fact, vet bills amounted to up to S$30,000.

Thankfully, the SMRT staff at KCD came to the feline’s rescue and provided care for Cassidy.
Some staff members brought Cassidy home while others helped bring the feline to veterinary appointments.
At the depot, some made sure Cassidy got its fill of food and water.
