Honda driver speeds, tailgates & brake-checks abruptly on Lornie Highway

Honda driver spotted speeding on Lornie Highway

On 2 Oct, the driver of a white Honda Civic was spotted speeding, tailgating and brake-checking a few times on Lornie Highway.

Fortunately, the incident, which occurred around 7.03pm, happened along a largely empty road and did not result in an accident.

Dashcam footage of the incident was shared on the Facebook page SGRV ADMIN on Thursday (15 Oct).

Honda driver flashes high beam and tailgates

Front and back dashcams from a nearby car captured the Honda driver’s antics.

In the video, the white Honda Civic is initially seen behind the camcar, which was driving along Lane 1 of the highway.

The Honda driver then signals to the right before turning on the high beam.

In the caption, the dashcar driver also claimed the Honda driver had tailgated him when there was a motorcycle in front of his vehicle.

Brake checks twice after overtaking

Shortly after, the Honda Civic speeds up and overtakes the camcar.

The dashcar driver noted that he was already driving at the highway’s speed limit, making the Honda driver’s actions dangerous.

After overtaking, the Honda driver brake-checks the camcar thrice.

The dashcar driver believes the other party’s purpose was to “intimidate” and get them to “jam brake on a highway”.

However, they “already anticipated aggressive behaviour and slowed down a lot to prevent any accident”.

In the end, the Honda driver speeds off and drives ahead of the camcar into the distance.

Tailgating accidents can result in S$1,500 fine and 6 months’ jail

While tailgating is not an offence in Singapore, drivers can be charged with “driving without due care or reasonable consideration” if the act causes an accident.

The first offence carries a fine of up to S$1,500, up to six months’ jail, or both. Meanwhile, repeat offenders receive higher penalties.

A driver can also face more serious offences such as “reckless or dangerous driving” depending on the severity of the case.
