2 multi-vehicle accidents along the AYE involved 6 lorries, trailer & motorcycle
A total of 23 people were sent to the hospital after two separate, multi-vehicle accidents occurred along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) over nine hours.
The accidents, which took place on Monday (11 May) night and Tuesday (12 May) morning, both involved trapped people who had to be freed by rescuers.

Heavy vehicles lined up along AYE
A video of the first accident showed a lorry that had been hit from the back by another heavy vehicle.
A number of Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel were attending to the front cabin of the lorry.

In front of that lorry was another lorry which had debris scattered on the road next to it.

Farther in front was a red trailer that had also stopped on the far-left lane.

2 lanes of AYE blocked after multi-vehicle accident
Several SCDF vehicles were at the scene, including at least one ambulance.

An Expressway Monitoring & Advisory System (EMAS) Recovery could also be spotted.

The two left-most lanes of the AYE were cordoned off, forcing traffic to squeeze through the remaining far-right lane.

17 sent to hospital after AYE pile-up
In response to queries from The Straits Times (ST), the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said it was alerted to the accident at about 9.25pm on 11 May.
It took place along the AYE in the direction of Tuas, before the Corporation Road exit, and involved a trailer and three lorries.
When SCDF personnel arrived, they found three people trapped. They were freed using hydraulic rescue equipment.
17 people were conveyed to the hospital — six to the National University Hospital (NUH) and another 11 to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH).

Footage of the aftermath of the second accident showed a person being stretchered away from the back of a lorry.

Emergency vehicles & several migrant workers were at the scene
SCDF vehicles, including an ambulance, were at the scene, along with a number of paramedics.
An EMAS Recovery vehicle blocked off two lanes on the left.

In a post on X, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said at 7.54am at an accident had occurred along the AYE in the direction of the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE), after the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) exit.

Motorists were advised to avoid lanes 2 and 3.
6 sent to hospital after 12 May AYE multi-vehicle accident
SPF told ST that it was alerted to this accident at about 6.45am on 12 May.
It took place along the AYE in the direction of MCE, before the Benoi Road exit, and involved three lorries and a motorcycle.
SCDF said that one person was trapped in the front seat of a lorry and had to be extricated using hydraulic rescue equipment.
Six men were sent to the hospital in a conscious state:
- Four lorry passengers aged between 36 and 63
- A 47-year-old motorcyclist
- A 41-year-old pillion rider
Additionally, two people were assisting with police investigations — a 53-year-old male lorry driver and the motorcyclist.
