Diner concerned about hygiene after noticing bird droppings on tables and chairs at hawker centre
A diner has raised concerns over the cleanliness of Geylang East Market & Food Centre after allegedly encountering tables and seats stained with dried bird droppings.

In an email sent to MS News, Mdm M. Ossman shared that the incident occurred while she was dining at the hawker centre on 4 July at around 1pm.
Many tables and chairs were reportedly covered in dried bird droppings that had been there for some time.

“This is unhygienic and may pose a health risk, as bird droppings can carry harmful germs and bacteria,” she said.

Mdm Ossman also claimed that the trays and cleared plates were often left at the return area for long periods.
She also shared that the leftover food attracted crows and pigeons, which were seen feeding on the scraps.
Creates unpleasant dining environment
Besides creating an unpleasant dining environment, it could also encourage the nearby bird population to grow.
As a result, this could further contribute to ongoing cleanliness issues in the area if left unaddressed.
“I hope the Municipal Services Office will look into this matter and work with the relevant agencies to improve the cleanliness and maintenance of the food centre,” Mdm Ossman said.

She also hoped for a resolution to safeguard public hygiene and community well-being.
The public can also report hygiene issues at hawker centres through official channels for prompt investigation and action.
MS News has also reached out to the National Environment Agency (NEA) for comment.
