Singaporean Man Surprises Mum With Newspaper Montage For Her 69th Birthday

When it comes to gifts for our parents, it can be difficult to find the perfect one for them. This TikTok user, however, gave a unique, yet hilarious gift that was perfect for his mum.

TikTok user @jksg98, who goes by JK, posted a video on Monday (6 Feb) of him gifting his mum a giant newspaper montage for her 69th birthday. The montage was filled with every newspaper article his mother was featured in.

It turns out, his mother once made the news when she became the first person in Singapore to hire a private investigator (PI) and prove her first husband’s adultery.

She was then granted a divorce.

JK shared that his mother has been married four times, and surprisingly is on good terms with most of her ex-husbands.

Netizens were surprised by the numerous times his mother has been featured in the news. They were also shocked by her marriage history.

In the video, the family gifts the mother a giant photo frame with several newspaper articles on it.

The montage contains every single article featuring his mother over the years — there appears to be plenty.

In response to MS News‘ queries, JK shared that he wanted to give his mother something that money couldn’t buy. He even visited the library to access some of the older newspaper articles to print.

Out of all the articles, the family chose to zoom into one of her most shocking stories.

JK’s mother made the news in 1979 for becoming the first woman to hire a PI for her divorce. She found out that her first ex-husband had committed adultery through a report from her PI, and thus filed for divorce.

JK shared that this was definitely her wildest story so far. It is a story that “has always been stuck in [his] mind” growing up.

JK even panned the camera towards her first ex-husband, who was somehow also present at her birthday party.

He added that his mother has been married four times. Despite this, she continues to remain on good terms with most of her ex-husbands.

Some of her family members didn’t even know about her making the news for such a reason.

For example, his half-sister only found out about their mother hiring a PI in a divorce during the party itself.

Though JK said his mother was “shocked” and “surprised” by their gift, she was not in the least embarrassed.

Many TikTok users found the mother’s montage to be hilarious and incredible at the same time.

Several were in awe that she has been married a whopping four times. They were also impressed by the number of times she was featured in the papers.

One netizen even called her famous, considering the number of times she has been featured. But JK replied that she is “D-list”, jokingly pointing out she isn’t quite as famous as an A-lister.

Another TikTok user aptly compared her to Evelyn Hugo, a fictional character from the novel ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo’. Like the title indicates, Hugo has had seven husbands.
