Table grill & exhaust ducting catch fire at restaurant in Bishan Junction 8
One person was sent to the hospital on Tuesday (11 Aug) night after a fire broke out at a restaurant in Junction 8.
Footage of the incident posted on Threads showed smoke filling the area outside Japanese barbeque restaurant Yakiniku Like, which is located on level one of the mall in Bishan.

People seen leaving mall amid thick smoke
The clip, taken from the Yoshinoya outlet opposite, showed people recording the scene with their phones and others rushing out amid the thick smoke.
While two diners continued eating, a table was observed to have possibly been abandoned with half-eaten meals on it.

No fire alarm was heard.
OP said smoke caused eyes to water
The original poster (OP) said in her post that her party was about to start eating at Yoshinoya when a crowd started gathering outside Yakiniku Like.
She thought a celebrity had appeared, but then saw thick smoke filling the air.
This caused their eyes to water, and they started to choke.
They were then ordered to evacuate.
Bishan Junction 8 fire extinguished by SCDF
In response to queries from MS News, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at about 7.10pm on 11 Aug.
It involved a table grill and exhaust ducting in the dining area of a restaurant on the first floor of 9 Bishan Place — the address of Junction 8.
The blaze was extinguished by SCDF using a hosereel.
120 evacuated, 1 sent to hospital
About 120 people were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
One person was assessed for smoke inhalation and subsequently conveyed to Singapore General Hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Yakiniku Like temporarily closed
A spokesperson for Junction 8 told Channel NewsAsia (CNA) that it was alerted to a “small fire” at around 7.05pm that night.
The mall’s safety measures, including the automated sprinkler system and fire curtain, were immediately activated.
No other injuries were reported, the spokesperson added.
Yakiniku Like is temporarily closed, but the rest of the mall is operating as usual.
