No bomb found in vehicle at Woodlands Checkpoint after further checks conducted: ICA

A 35-year-old Singaporean man has been referred to the police after taunting officers about a “bomb” in his vehicle at Woodlands Checkpoint.

This claim was found to be false after further checks on his vehicle, said the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) in a Facebook post on Tuesday (6 Oct).

Man mentions ‘bomb’ after vehicle inspected at Woodlands Checkpoint

The man was travelling with five companions in his vehicle at around 6.20pm on Sunday (4 Oct), ICA said.

This was when they were directed to undergo enhanced checks at the Arrival Cargo Zone of Woodlands Checkpoint.

After the inspection of the vehicle had finished, the man taunted ICA officers, making remarks about finding a bomb in his vehicle.

ICA expends additional resources for further checks

The man’s remarks prompted ICA officers to immediately cordon off the area.

Further checks were conducted on the vehicle and the group of travellers, which took up additional resources, ICA said.

Eventually, it was established that there was no bomb in the vehicle.

Man referred to the police

The man was subsequently referred to the police for the offence of making indecent communications likely to cause alarm.

This is an offence under Section 4 of the Protection from Harassment Act, and carries a fine of up to S$5,000 if convicted.

Police investigations are ongoing.

ICA takes checkpoint security ‘very seriously’

ICA said it takes Singapore checkpoint security “very seriously”, this all security threat reports will be “thoroughly investigated”.

Travellers were reminded to conduct themselves in an orderly manner at checkpoints and comply with officers’ instructions at the checkpoints, adding:

We will not hesitate to act against those who make false or misleading claims that may cause unnecessary alarm.
